The counters are correct.  The semantics of these metrics are brain-dead
from birth ... a genetic weakness passed down through the generations
from sadc in Unix edition 7 or thereabouts.

When we get the tutorial out there, you'll see a long diatribe from me
on how to measure disk performance, and aveq and avactive are highlighted
as not helpful.
