Thanks for your reply.

I did not check to see if `pmcd' is running, and I didn't check the log
files. (I do not use DHCP.) Since 2.4.12 just came out --I am currently
running 2.4.11 that has a symlink bug, hence the need for 2.4.12 -- I
will build a 2.4.12 system, and try again. I'll let you know the
results.
