No, no cross compiling.
issue wont help cause I am in a chroot environment.

using glibc 2.2.1
and 
Linux D110 2.4.1-SMP #1 SMP Mon Feb 12 23:36:05 GMT 2001 ia64 unknown 
and I have a 4-processor machine :-)


And of course its the current SuSE in development.
By the way, it also fails on glibc 2.2 systems
