I have a 2 host network with a 2.2.19 based router running radvd 0.6.2 (not
p11) and a 2.2.19 based client and am having the same problem as
Peter. Most of the time the client doesn't autoconfigure itself to the
site local address being provided in the router advertisements.
I tried both "/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart" and Peter's suggestion of
"ifconfig eth0 down" followed about 60 seconds later by "ifconfig eth0 up".
Neither seems to work.
When autoconfigure fails I see:
08:05:59.643602 fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e > ff02::2: icmp6: router solicitation
08:05:59.692754 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > ff02::1: icmp6: router advertisement
08:06:06.662744 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > ff02::1: icmp6: router advertisement
when it works I see:
08:08:12.359210 fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e > ff02::2: icmp6: router solicitation
08:08:12.622758 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > ff02::1: icmp6: router advertisement
08:08:12.622863 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > ff02::1:ffc8:ca2e: icmp6:
neighbor sol: who has fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e
08:08:12.623064 fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e > fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a: icmp6:
neighbor adv: tgt is fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e
08:08:12.623093 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > fe80::210:5aff:fec8:ca2e: icmp6:
router advertisement
08:08:13.259079 :: > ff02::1:ffc8:ca2e: icmp6: neighbor sol: who has cn.crc.ca
08:08:19.952751 fe80::210:5aff:fe9e:2e7a > ff02::1: icmp6: router advertisement
I can usually force address autoconfiguration to work by rebooting the
client rather than doing a network restart.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
