Unfortunatelly, I am not able to use the STP protocol because the machine which attempts to send STP data (I used the tstp benchmark which is included in the stp tools) hangs immediatelly after connect(). The receiver side is still receiving the connect attempt, but then the sender hangs. Nothing goes to syslog and I can only hit the reset button :-( Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I use 2 GA620 cards in 64/66 PCI slots. I got also a precompiled kernel tree (2.4.0-test10) from someone who is playing with STP too, which is an older release than mine. With the 2.4.0-test10 the tstp benchmark works (exactly the same hardware setup) but for various block sizes given to the tstp benchmark I'm getting strange I/O errors/timeouts. Sender lockup doesn't occure here. Anybody working on better STP patches actually? sincerely, -- Paul Starzetz Kirchhoff Institute, Schroederstr. 90 69120 Heidelberg 06221 54 4323 From owner-stp@oss.sgi.com Thu Apr 19 01:13:34 2001 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.3/8.11.3) id f3J8DY316323 for stp-outgoing; Thu, 19 Apr 2001 01:13:34 -0700 Received: from smtp1.cern.ch (smtp1.cern.ch [137.138.128.38]) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id f3J8DXM16320 for ; Thu, 19 Apr 2001 01:13:33 -0700 Received: from lxplus041.cern.ch (IDENT:root@lxplus041.cern.ch [137.138.161.32]) by smtp1.cern.ch (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id KAA29502; Thu, 19 Apr 2001 10:13:26 +0200 (MET DST) Received: from localhost (ppieta@localhost) by lxplus041.cern.ch (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id KAA06224; Thu, 19 Apr 2001 10:13:27 +0200 X-Authentication-Warning: lxplus041.cern.ch: ppieta owned process doing -bs Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 10:13:27 +0200 (CEST) From: Pekka Pietikainen X-Sender: ppieta@lxplus041.cern.ch To: Paul Starzetz cc: stp@oss.sgi.com Subject: Re: STP kernel hangs In-Reply-To: <3ADDD072.D2DBE077@starzetz.de> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-stp@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk > I'm testing latest STP patches for the 2.4.2 kernel as found on the > SGI's ftp site. What I'd use is the latest 2.4.x-ac patch from ftp.kernel.org /pub/linux/kernel/people/alan (seems to be 2.4.3-ac9 now), the 2.4.2 STP patch should go in just fine.
