It will come online in a couple of days (hopefully). Part of that change will be a unification of the sgilinux@oss.sgi.com mailing list and the sgilinux11@oss.sgi.com mailing list. Since we are launching the sgi propack 1.2, it seems silly to create a new mailing list for that and adding it as part of 1.1 seems even sillier. So, there will soon only be one mailing list called sgilinux@oss.sgi.com. This will be the mailing list for all sgilinux and sgi propack related questions, announcements, etc. (I will create an alias for sgilinux11@oss.sgi.com that points to sgilinux@oss.sgi.com, but this will only be temporary) You don't need to do anything. If you are subscribed to either of the lists, you will be put on the new unified list. Your best bet is to try installing the kernel rpm (the vw kernel). I have not actually tried this kernel, but it should work :) You will need to change the prom to point to the new kernel of course and point the initrd at the new initrd in the kernel arguments. But the installer will not work. You will need to use the rpms manually. Please let me know how it goes and I will create a FAQ section of the web site. I have been meaning to test out the new kenel on a 320, but we don't officially support this so it has been at the bottom of my list. Also, I don't have easy access to a 320 -- I gave mine away in favor of a real i386 box :) (not that it is a better machine -- just better linux support). Sorry I could not be more helpful. I will pass your email off to people more familliar with the 320. later, -tduffy On Tue, 14 Mar 2000, karsten wrote: > How do i install the propack on a sgi 320 running redhat linux 6.0 ??? > > karsten@tru-media.com > > From owner-sgilinux@oss.sgi.com Fri Mar 17 17:27:58 2000 Received: by oss.sgi.com id ; Fri, 17 Mar 2000 17:27:38 -0800 Received: from dreamworks.com ([209.179.64.2]:43425 "HELO border.dreamworks.com") by oss.sgi.com with SMTP id ; Fri, 17 Mar 2000 17:27:11 -0800 Received: from mail.anim.dreamworks.com by border.dreamworks.com via smtpd (for oss.sgi.com [216.32.174.118]) with SMTP; 18 Mar 2000 01:27:11 UT Received: from integra.anim.dreamworks.com (integra-ether.anim.dreamworks.com [192.168.1.111]) by mail.anim.dreamworks.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id RAA01191; Fri, 17 Mar 2000 17:27:09 -0800 (PST) Received: from anim.dreamworks.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by integra.anim.dreamworks.com (980427.SGI.8.8.8/970903.SGI.AUTOCF) via ESMTP id RAA55457; Fri, 17 Mar 2000 17:27:07 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <38D2DB6B.EC95590D@anim.dreamworks.com> Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2000 17:27:07 -0800 From: Suri Denduluri Organization: DreamWorks X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.07C-SGI [en] (X11; U; IRIX 6.5 IP22) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: sgilinux@oss.sgi.com Subject: graphics and flat panel Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-sgilinux@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk Return-Path: X-Orcpt: rfc822;sgilinux-outgoing I like the overlay model described here. Support for SGI monitor is nice. Had a conference call with engineers last december and was informed of vulcan, flash and trio (if I remember right). What would be the distribution model for this hardware. Would it be distributed with X free 86 v4, would there be support for flat panel ? Also of lot of interest to us is the medialibs, movieplayer etc. Any plans to bundle any of these features into overlay or give them as value add for your workstations or distribute the overlays at nimonal charge. The ISO image is an image of a complete ISO9660 cdrom. The INSTALL file is contained in this image. You either have to burn the image onto a cd and mount it, or mount the image itself via the loopback device, ie mount -t iso9660 -o loop Regards, Ken -- Kenneth Murchison Oceana Matrix Ltd. This will probably be the fastest thing. On the other hand, you can always install the kernel rpm and then point arcx at that. I am in the process of trying to get a few vw's in house to continue to develop the kernel. I have talked to a couple of people who seem interested including Ralf Baechle who is in Germany as well. We hope to at least see the VW support forward ported to the 2.3 kernels. Right now, it may be dropped if no body supports it. In any event, if you do know something about the linux kernel, we could always use your help. If you find any specific bugs, let me know. And the keyboard this is known and I don't know of any workarounds -- sorry. Are there some news about kernel 2.4 + sgi vw? ..is 3°generation of vw in progress and tuning with latest develop-kernel? The problems that i find recompiling are on frame-buffer.. and the elf-only-operating-system loader isn't so good and beauty... Let's me know about... On sgi 320 i'm evolving gimp1.1.x with Italian Localization.
