On Sunday, we had a daylight savings change (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia), clocks going forward one hour at 2am. Somehow the daily PCP log rotation scripts have managed to delete all of the PCP archives for that day, I presume as part of the daily log rotation. We use the recommended daily log rotation regime, with daily rotation at 00:10 as per the man pages, driven by cron. This happened on every single host I looked at so far, so not some wierd race condition. Presumably something in the logic that does the log merge of all individual logs for 1 day, and then unlinks the old ones has resulted in no "new" merged archive (how!?) and yet still removed the "old" ones. Looking back, I don't think this is the first time it has happened. For Win32 (no symlink support to speak of) we now create a hardlink tree below this location, instead of the single symlink, and build there. The Debian build is also changed to use this, since it also didn't like the symlink approach (dpkg-buildpackages does a `pwd` in that directory to intuit the package version, and that gives "pcp" when using a symlink). The Debian build no longer has to be done by a nathans-special Makepkgs wrapper script, and now nicely deposits .deb files in build/deb. But, mainly, this change is to give us a functional packaging component to the build on Win32. Also in here, is a change to handle all the autoconf/configure generated files the same way - only removed on "make distclean / realclean" - previously this was half-and-half (some removed on "make clean", some were not). This implements the original clear intention - tha "make clean" leaves these files, and a "realclean" or "distclean" takes 'em out. Aim is to make the bootup process less chatty, and more like all other daemon startup scripts. - add -v option to pmie/pmproxy scripts, for consistency with the pcp start script. - remove couple of comments that simply stated what the next line of script was doing. - make pmie and pmproxy scripts use the same shutdown logic that pmcd uses, in terms of chattiness (iow. we don't print "Waiting for pmie processes" anymore if there were none to stop). That file is a symlink to COPYING in the top level... which is checked in and definately in LSRCFILES. We have reconciled your tree (as of yesterday) into ptools and are now not far off pushing out 2.7.8 to git://oss.sgi.com:8090/pcp/pcp.git This will include some new open source items too, with more to come in the next week or two. Just working thru some build issues in our product trees first.
