Now that pcp is (L)GPL'ed I can monitor most of our systems with the excellent GUI based tools, but unfortunately one of our O2's doesn't have a license for PMCD client connections. I can monitor linuxboxes for free, but not sgi's? What's up with that? Shouldn't there be free licenses for running PMCD on irix too? BTW: hope to see some gui tools for linux too soon :) -- Jan-Frode Myklebust, Para//ab, High Performance Computing Center From owner-pcp@oss.sgi.com Fri Jan 28 14:59:55 2000 Received: by oss.sgi.com id ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 14:59:45 -0800 Received: from deliverator.sgi.com ([204.94.214.10]:25671 "EHLO deliverator.sgi.com") by oss.sgi.com with ESMTP id ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 14:59:39 -0800 Received: from larry.melbourne.sgi.com (larry.melbourne.sgi.com [134.14.52.130]) by deliverator.sgi.com (980309.SGI.8.8.8-aspam-6.2/980310.SGI-aspam) via SMTP id OAA11007 for ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 14:57:52 -0800 (PST) mail_from (markgw@sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com) Received: from sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com (sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com [134.14.55.132]) by larry.melbourne.sgi.com (950413.SGI.8.6.12/950213.SGI.AUTOCF) via ESMTP id KAA03806; Sat, 29 Jan 2000 10:01:01 +1100 Received: (from markgw@localhost) by sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com (980427.SGI.8.8.8/980728.SGI.AUTOCF) id KAA04880; Sat, 29 Jan 2000 10:00:59 +1100 (EST) From: markgw@sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com (Mark Goodwin) Message-Id: <10001291000.ZM4881@sandpit.melbourne.sgi.com> Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2000 10:00:59 -0500 In-Reply-To: Jan-Frode Myklebust "License on IRIX" (Jan 28, 20:45) References: <20000128204529.A9266@ii.uib.no> Reply-To: markgw@sgi.com X-Mailer: Z-Mail (3.2.3 08feb96 MediaMail) To: Jan-Frode Myklebust , pcp@oss.sgi.com Subject: Re: License on IRIX Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-pcp@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk Return-Path: X-Orcpt: rfc822;pcp-outgoing On Jan 28, 20:45, Jan-Frode Myklebust wrote: > Subject: License on IRIX > > Hi, > > thanks for gpl'ing pcp! > > Now that pcp is (L)GPL'ed I can monitor most of our systems with the > excellent GUI based tools, but unfortunately one of our O2's doesn't have > a license for PMCD client connections. However, there are no immediate plans for a full new release of PCP for IRIX. I suppose we could consider relaxing the pmcd license for IRIX6.5.8. > > BTW: hope to see some gui tools for linux too soon :) > You can buy the PCP monitor tools for Linux as part of the (soon to be released) Advanced Clustering Environment (ACE) product from SGI, assuming SGI will let you buy the CD without hardware. Do you think there would be any interest if we offered the monitor tools for linux as a product in it's own right? I'm using the pcp monitor tools mainly for monitoring our O2K, but yes.. If I needed to monitor beowulf clusters I would definitely want a pmchart, and maybe a (be)oview :-) -jf -- Jan-Frode Myklebust, Para//ab, High Performance Computing Center
