hi,

greetings.  i would like to know if there is any kernel debugger that can
debug the kernel code without crashing it.  (i.e. i want to avoid rebooting
the kernel each time)

You want to avoid rebooting the kernel each time what?  Each time
you drop into the debugger?

You can also try kdb.

Anmol,

There is no patch that has been tested against 2.2.17.  Have you tried
the most recent patch to see if it works?
