The problem was that urb is null, and the usb keyread function expects urb to contain a valid urb. The fix drops out if urb is null in the poll function. I have tested this patch by typing help (h) on usb keyboard, (e) on serial keyboard, (l) on usb keyboard, (p) on serial keyboard (enter) on usb keyboard, to see the help displayed to my serial console. It is available here: http://www.ccur.com/realtime/oss This version is based SGI's kdb-v4.3-2.4.22. This version fixes a couple of bugs in my earlier patch. I was not clearing the returned symbol in kdbnearsym() when no matching symbol was found. This resulted in error messages on stack trace backs. I also fixed the pid lookup in the btp command. It is now thread aware. I just did a quick merge this time. I still hope to sort out the differences between my patch and Xavier's patch for ia64. Jim Houston - Concurrent Computer Corp. Now could somebody point me to design doc of kgdb i.e. how kgdb works internally or some generic doc on the principle behind this remote debugging concept for source-level kernel debugging? The major problem is where to keep the source. Since you're debugging the kernel, you probably don't want to keep the source on one of the disks, as you may be debugging the filesystem, file cache or disk driver. You can't use the buffer cache/file cache as that would perturb the behavior of the system under test in an undesirable fashion. A primary design goal of KDB is to use as little of the regular kernel as possible to allow the highest level of flexibility in what can and cannot be debugged. KGDB may be an appropriate vehicle for source-level kernel debugging. scott > > Thanks in Advance > > Regards > Sreeram > Tachyon Technologies-- From kaos@sgi.com Fri Sep 26 06:41:59 2003 Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list kdb); Fri, 26 Sep 2003 06:42:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.ocs.com.au (mail.ocs.com.au [203.34.97.2]) by oss.sgi.com (8.12.10/8.12.10) with SMTP id h8QDfaFx030105 for ; Fri, 26 Sep 2003 06:41:58 -0700 Received: (qmail 16514 invoked from network); 26 Sep 2003 13:41:32 -0000 Received: from ocs3.intra.ocs.com.au (192.168.255.3) by mail.ocs.com.au with SMTP; 26 Sep 2003 13:41:32 -0000 Received: by ocs3.intra.ocs.com.au (Postfix, from userid 16331) id D406DC00A8; Fri, 26 Sep 2003 23:41:23 +1000 (EST) Received: from ocs3.intra.ocs.com.au (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ocs3.intra.ocs.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTP id AFBD11400A8; Fri, 26 Sep 2003 23:41:23 +1000 (EST) X-Mailer: exmh version 2.5 01/15/2001 with nmh-1.0.4 From: Keith Owens To: Tanmay Pradhan Cc: kdb@oss.sgi.com Subject: Re: kernel source-level debugging In-reply-to: Your message of "Fri, 26 Sep 2003 17:28:17 +0530." <3F7429D9.2070300@india.hp.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 23:41:22 +1000 Message-ID: <2788.1064583682@ocs3.intra.ocs.com.au> X-archive-position: 486 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: kdb-bounce@oss.sgi.com Errors-to: kdb-bounce@oss.sgi.com X-original-sender: kaos@sgi.com Precedence: bulk X-list: kdb On Fri, 26 Sep 2003 17:28:17 +0530, Tanmay Pradhan wrote: >While searching for kernel source-level debugging on google, >came across the following message. hence subscribed to this group. >I too had the same query. > >Now could somebody point me to design doc of kgdb i.e. >how kgdb works internally or >some generic doc on the principle behind this remote debugging concept >for source-level kernel debugging?
