I'm not on the list so please CC me back. I'm using a 2.4.18 kernel (on a PIII (compaq Evo N150)) with latest ACPI patches (well this is why I need kdb... there is a acpi kdb module). I finally could compile everything, and when I hit the pause key, I go to kdb. It's fine BUT none standard commands are recognized ! So I cannot type "go" : still have "Unknown command"... Quite annoying. I've seen something similar in a mail from Xavier Bru (january 2002)... Any kdb modules loaded are OK (acpi kdb seems to work fine. No intensive chech thou). So do you think it is the same pb reported by X.Bru (no init() called). And is there a simple solution ? Just a simple question (to which I can find the answer in the kernel, I know...) : when is the kdb_init function called ? At boot or when entering kdb ? (I guess at boot. Ok my question is quite stupid...) And then can I do debug printk in it ? (the awful debug method). Thank you. Apply the common patch for your kernel plus at least one architecture dependent patch, the architecture patches activate kdb. The naming convention for kdb patches is :- vx.y The version of kdb. x.y is updated as new features are added to kdb. - -v.p.s The kernel version that the patch applies to. 's' may include -pre, -rc or whatever numbering system the kernel keepers have thought up this week. - -common The common kdb code. Everybody needs this. - -i386 Architecture dependent code for i386. - -ia64 Architecture dependent code for ia64, etc. - -n If there are multiple kdb patches against the same kernel version then the last number is incremented. To build kdb for your kernel, apply the common kdb patch which is less than or equal to the kernel v.p.s, taking the highest value of '-n' if there is more than one. Apply the relevant arch dependent patch with the same value of 'vx.y-v.p.s-', taking the highest value of '-n' if there is more than one. For example, to use kdb v2.2 for i386 on kernel 2.4.19-rc1, apply kdb-v2.2-2.4.19-rc1-common- (use highest value of ) kdb-v2.2-2.4.19-rc1-i386- (use highest value of ) in that order. It also modifies the kdba_setregcontents routine. Until now, it seems to work. I have checked for bad modifications and you can't modify an inexistent stacked register. When the kernel panics, kdb appears, but, it sends a constant string of information to my PS2 port making the caps lock and scroll lock keys flash at a high rate, making it impossible for me to type any debugging commands. Why does this happen? Why does this happen? kdb and recent Redhat kernels flash the keyboard leds during a panic to tell you that the kernel is dead. If you are sitting in X with no console visible it is often the only indication you get that a kernel has died. To disable this feature, in arch/i386/kdb/kdba_io.c change #define KDB_BLINK_LED 1 to #undef KDB_BLINK_LED From owner-kdb@oss.sgi.com Fri Jul 19 15:46:37 2002 Received: from oss.sgi.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by oss.sgi.com (8.12.5/8.12.5) with ESMTP id g6JMkbRw030847 for ; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 15:46:37 -0700 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by oss.sgi.com (8.12.5/8.12.3/Submit) id g6JMkbfv030846 for kdb-outgoing; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 15:46:37 -0700 X-Authentication-Warning: oss.sgi.com: majordomo set sender to owner-kdb@oss.sgi.com using -f Received: from test-area.com (server72.aitcom.net [208.234.0.72]) by oss.sgi.com (8.12.5/8.12.5) with SMTP id g6JMkWRw030843 for ; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 15:46:32 -0700 Received: from there (adsl-156-65-190.asm.bellsouth.net [66.156.65.190]) by test-area.com (8.8.8/8.8.5) with SMTP id SAA10910 for ; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 18:47:11 -0400 Message-Id: <200207192247.SAA10910@test-area.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-15" From: anton wilson To: kdb@oss.sgi.com Subject: O(1) and kdb Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2002 18:46:15 -0400 X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.3.1] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-kdb@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk Not sure if anyone's interested, but to change KDB to use the O(1) scheduler just replace + task_has_cpu(p), p->processor, with + (p->array != NULL), p->cpu, in the common patch at: +int +kdb_ps(int argc, const char **argv, const char **envp, struct pt_regs *regs) +{ + struct task_struct *p; + + kdb_printf("%-*s Pid Parent [*] cpu State %-*s Command\n", + (int)(2*sizeof(void *))+2, "Task Addr", + (int)(2*sizeof(void *))+2, "Thread"); + for_each_task(p) { + kdb_printf("0x%p %08d %08d %1.1d %3.3d %s 0x%p%c%s\n", + (void *)p, p->pid, p->p_pptr->pid, + task_has_cpu(p), p->processor, + (p->state == 0)?"run ":(p->state>0)?"stop":"unrn", + (void *)(&p->thread), + (p == current) ?
