Rose Dennis, this city's ruling tastemaker, demonstrating what= =20 happens when fashion, savvy, and philanthropy collide.  Rose is= a force=20 of energy to many charitable and arts boards and causes, as well as = a=20 fashion leader to be noticed.  Her marketing prowess gets notic= ed by the=20 public, and the public in turn notices her Luly Yang couture and envia= ble=20 shoe collection.

Duell=20 Fisher,=20 owner of Team Photogenic. =20 You're not anybody in Seattle=20 until you've been photographed by Team Photogenic.  Duell is th= e=20 recorder of all things fashionable and haute in our town.  He e= ven=20 recently promoted himself to host of his own TV=20 show.  The wide coverage of the party pix by his company ha= s pretty=20 much ruined the ability for Seattle=20 women to wear the same outfit twice, without getting snarked out.

Museum: Wing Luke Opening, May 31st= -=20 June 1st, free, celebrating its new 60,000 square foot home.  M= useum=20 highlights include Community Portrait Galleries, George Tsutakawa Ar= t=20 Gallery, Historic Immersion Exhibits, Tateuchi=20 Story Theatre, KidPLACE, and so on.  Since it=92s the opening, = they'll=20 trot out all of the local dignitaries and fun activities to make a= =20 powerful first impression, so go enjoy it while it's free.

= Lecture:=20 Jane Austen lecture: Viewing Austen Through Vermeer's Camera Obscura, June 8th, free= =20 lecture, and $5 for the tea and cake reception afterwards.  The= =20 president of the North American Jane Austen society comes into town = with=20 a discussion on female domesticity viewed through both Ms. Austen=92= s=20 words and Vermeer's camera obscura paintings.  Get a new perspective upon perha= ps the=20 best novels in the English language, and you can bet the Earl Gray t= ea=20 will be flowing afterwards.  Those Regency era chicks can be pr= etty=20 hilarious, after they let the crinoline down.

Arts: Spring Arts Fling, May 30th, $10, for young arts patrons.  = (If=20 you're under 40 and subscribe to the arts, then that makes you young= =2E) =20 This is a casual social event, to cross-pollinate exposure from one = arts=20 organization to the other, of hanging out and chatting with performe= rs=20 from the theater, symphony, and ballet.  Afterwards, the artist= s put=20 together short performances, creating little mash-ups.

Fashion: Spring into Summer - = A=20 Rendezvous of High Tea & Fashion Infusion, June 1st, $65.&nb= sp;=20 Undisputed Seattle fashion queen Luly Yang launches her 2009 collect= ion=20 of dresses, swing coats, and suits.  Like cars, the 2009 models= always=20 seem to come out 7 months early.  This is a good mother/daughte= r sort of=20 event.  Pay the bucks for a stunning piece that no one else wil= l own. =20 *  Also, it's not until August 7th, but the tix for Fashion First are on= sale=20 now, $40+.  It's hard to think of a bigger fashion show in Seat= tle than=20 this one.

Fundraiser: Firefighter Calendar Jud= ging,=20 May 29th, $20, with the audience voting for their pick for the calen= dar=20 cover.  This isn't just some ogling chick event; there are enou= gh female=20 firefighters to make it interesting for both genders.  These=20= firefighters are not the sexy hard-body types, they're more athletic= =2E =20 These firefighters must have a full sack of puns ready-to-go, "= You can=20 use my fire hose any time."

Ballet: All Robbins,= =20 starting May 29th, $20+, featuring three works from the master himse= lf,=20 whose 60-year career spans numerous works of ballet and musical=20 theater.  PNB produces its favorite three, all of which are typ= ical=20 crowd- pleasers.  One interesting little tidbit about Robbin,is= that he=20 testified to the House Committee on Un-American Activities, ratting out his forme= r=20 friends.

Business: What = To Do=20 About Rising Costs in China, May 28th, $20.  Say you're a b= usiness,=20 making your goods with the cheap labor in China, sending them to the= =20 US.  But now, with the declining dollar and the rising yuan, yo= u're no=20 longer making the big profits, which you've become accustomed to.&nb= sp; So,=20 what do you do?  Move onto a different country and exploit its = cheap-o=20 labor pool, or stick it out in China=20 and try new tactics to adjust?  Go hear what the options are fo= r=20 American companies making their goods overseas, and then selling the= m to=20 US consumers.

Film: Silent= Movie=20 Mondays, $12. This is great-grandpa type of stuff. Paramount The= ater=20 puts a silent movie up on the big screen along with an organ=20 accompaniment. See film when the captions were actually part of the= =20 story. As far as film goes, this is old-old school.

Family: Speed, starting May 31s= t, at=20 Pacific Science Center, $6+.  You think your life is fast? = ; Well, go see=20 what fast really means.  Learn about how things go really fast,= plus the=20 associated attributes of speed, such as stopping, drag, and=20 acceleration.  Kids get to build a fast car, drop pennies into = the Penny=20 Smasher, and other experiments associated with speed.  A lot of= the=20 scientific concepts are based on Newtonian physics, so they're actua= lly=20 not that hard to understand, except the speed of light, where everyt= hing=20 gets weird.

Activities: Bothell Recreation Guide, dates and costs vary.  The city o= f Bothell=20 has a good group of little activities for its citizens, including Be= lly=20 Dancing classes, Scrapbooking, Softball, and Bocce Ball.  Since= these=20 are through the City of Bothell, the costs are reasonable. Organization: Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nur= ses=20 Society, wow, this can't be a fun job.  They get to deal wi= th=20 festering wounds, puss, patients' colostomy bags, and other poo clea= ning=20 tasks.  No wonder they need their own group, just to get togeth= er and=20 mellow out afterwards.

Natural Energy Boosters: Forget the herbs and supplements.  Here are some tried and true= methods=20 to get more energy and put a little more spring in your step.=

Napping:=20 Infants, grandparents and Europeans may be onto something here. = ; A=20 little power nap during the day can have quantum improvements on you= r=20 productivity and health.  The napping pros advise taking a 20-m= inute nap=20 between 1-3=20 PM,=20 stay away from coffee and alcohol during lunch, and turn off your=20= telephone and cell.  Now, put your head down on your desk, and = don't be=20 ashamed.

Get=20 more light: With=20 the monochrome skies winter, how can one not feel a bit downcast and= =20 lethargic?  One easy answer is light bulbs formulated to emit t= he hues=20 of natural sunshine, not to mention those alarm clocks that start=20= lighting up 30 minutes before the alarm goes off.

Water, Coffee, and Sugar:=20 Coffee is a gimme=97 everyone's default=97but try to limit your inta= ke to=20 1-2 cups or 1 grand=E9 latte per day.  Sugar gets a bad rap.&nb= sp; It has some=20 pluses and minuses, but like anything, when used in moderation, it's= all=20 right.  Sugar in cookie form works best, especially if you opt = for a=20 fiber-filled oatmeal cookie.  Water is an overlooked choice, an= d best of=20 all, it comes right out of the tap.

Bananas:=20 Bananas are great: they come in their own packaging, are inexpensive= ,=20 are loaded with all sorts of nutrients, require no preparation, and= =20 taste good to boot.
