S. Cojot > Freetype 2.1.3 I think it's the overlay problem that's been around (for me on Solaris) since the begining and I have not taken the time to investigate it much farther. Two things hint that it is that overlay problem: 1) you have a Creator3D card and that card defaults to a 8bpp default overlay visual for the root window and 2) it displays fine on Linux (remotely). Linux X servers usually have no overlays (Unless you have an NVidia Quadro4 or a FireGL or AcceleratedX) so the default visual is usually the best visual (be it 24bpp, 15bpp, 16bpp or 32bpp). If you can run your local X server (Xsun) with a default root window at 24bpp, you will find that your text will most likely display fine but that the editors (Material, Color, transform) will crash the application with a seg fault.. In order to do this, you have to passe the "defdepth 24" argument to Xsun (check the SUN FAQ's on how to do this if you really want to). But all in all, I really have no clue on how to fix that problem and no time anyway... :( Sorry about that.. Does it mean that if That only applies to the distribution provided with IRIX, not the open source version.
