Will there be? Is there a cvs > repository somewhere with fixes? Is this thing even maintained? There has been no FAM release since 2.6.4, however I am working on one. The release may be a little while away, because I am integrating many bug fixes from the IRIX version of FAM into this version. I apologize for the delay. FAM and IMON certainly are being maintained, but I am quite busy. I greatly appreciate any help from the community, and I'm sorry I haven't dedicated sufficient time to fully test and release the patches you have submitted. There is currently no FAM CVS repository, but I intend to create one when all other tasks are done (new FAM release, and so on). > We're shipping fam starting with the RedHat 7.2 beta (with the > dnotify patches)... It's great to hear this. Can I be of any assistance? Have you been able to build a satisfactory RPM from the sources provided in the download area? Have you had any difficulties using FAM with xinetd? > I'm a bit worried that it doesn't seem very well tested. I would say that FAM has been well-tested, since it is used in the latest development version of Enlightenment, and has also been used with KDE and Nautilus. The open source version of FAM does not differ greatly from the FAM that has been used on SGI'S IRIX operating systems for several years, so FAM should be fairly mature software. On the other hand, IMON hooks into the Linux kernel in a different manner than the it does the IRIX kernel, so there is a possibility that IMON still has some issues introduced in the porting process. It may be fair to say that IMON has not yet received as much testing as I would like, and this is why I feel it was important to release a fully-working IMON patch for the Linux 2.4 kernel. The RPM bits in the makefiles are completely on crack. I have a patch in my rpm that disables them. xinetd hasn't been a problem, except for bugs in older versions. / Alex -- Source code, list archive, and docs: http://oss.sgi.com/projects/fam/ To unsubscribe: echo unsubscribe fam | mail majordomo@oss.sgi.com From owner-fam@oss.sgi.com Mon Aug 20 18:39:11 2001 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.2/8.11.3) id f7L1dBV04575 for fam-outgoing; Mon, 20 Aug 2001 18:39:11 -0700 Received: from arnie.adacel.com.au (arnie.adacel.com.au [203.36.26.147]) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.2/8.11.3) with SMTP id f7L1cv904568 for ; Mon, 20 Aug 2001 18:39:00 -0700 Received: (qmail 7190 invoked from network); 21 Aug 2001 01:14:56 -0000 Received: from intmail.adacel.com (HELO proton.adacel.com.au) (root@203.8.85.90) by arnie.adacel.com.au with SMTP; 21 Aug 2001 01:14:56 -0000 Received: from hera.wodonga.adacel.com.au ([192.168.74.2]) by proton.adacel.com.au (8.8.8+Sun/8.8.8) with SMTP id LAA27888 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2001 11:08:40 +1000 (EST) Received: (qmail 8631 invoked from network); 21 Aug 2001 01:08:03 -0000 Received: from zeus.wodonga.adacel.com.au (HELO zeus) (wardle@192.168.75.252) by hera.wodonga.adacel.com.au with SMTP; 21 Aug 2001 01:08:03 -0000 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" From: Michael Wardle Organization: Adacel Technologies Limited To: fam@oss.sgi.com Subject: [fam] Linux kernel patches adding imon support Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 11:08:03 +1000 X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.2] MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <0108211108030B.26269@zeus> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-fam@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk Hi all. Two imon patches were recently submitted to the list by Tom Prado , the first was for Linux 2.4.3 kernels, and the other for Linux 2.4.7 kernels. Unfortunately the list does not accept large posts, so I have added the patches to Bugzilla Bug 83 , and would encourage all contributors to do the same to avoid this problem. I have not yet tested these patches, so let me know how you go. Once I know that they work, I'll add them to the FAM download area. Here's the messages which accompanied the patches: ----- Hi, here's a patch for adding imon support to Linux-Mandrake's kernel in Mandrake 8.0. I've only tested it when compiled as a module on an SMP kernel. It might patch successfull against the 2.4.3 kernel from Linus but I haven't tried it. ----- ----- This is a patch to add imon support to a 2.4.7-13mdk kernel source that came with the Linux-Mandrake Cooker I'm using. This patch may or may not work with Linus's releases of the Linux kernel. I typically put these patches as well as other patches to other programs on my very cheesy homepage http://webpages.charter.net/tprado Have fun ----- Many thanks to Tom for those. -- MICHAEL WARDLE SGI FAM Maintainer Adacel Technologies Limited -- Source code, list archive, and docs: http://oss.sgi.com/projects/fam/ To unsubscribe: echo unsubscribe fam | mail majordomo@oss.sgi.com From owner-fam@oss.sgi.com Tue Aug 21 06:33:11 2001 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.2/8.11.3) id f7LDXBT20723 for fam-outgoing; Tue, 21 Aug 2001 06:33:11 -0700 Received: from mail.hiwaay.net (IDENT:0@fly.HiWAAY.net [208.147.154.56]) by oss.sgi.com (8.11.2/8.11.3) with SMTP id f7LDX7920720 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2001 06:33:07 -0700 Received: from nick (tnt11-216-180-128-139.dialup.HiWAAY.net [216.180.128.139]) by mail.hiwaay.net (8.11.3/8.11.3) with SMTP id f7LDX5F10628 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2001 08:33:06 -0500 (CDT) Message-Id: <200108211333.f7LDX5F10628@mail.hiwaay.net> Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 08:32:53 -0500 To: fam@oss.sgi.com From: Nick Hudson Subject: [fam] Fam RPM's X-Mailer: Opera 5.12 build 932 X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Sender: owner-fam@oss.sgi.com Precedence: bulk Greetings, Ok I was just wondering where the fam rpms are? If you're looking for FAM for Red Hat 6.x (if you're using inetd), the ones from the FAM OSS download area should do the trick. If you're looking for FAM for Red Hat 7.x (if you're using xinetd), I would suggest the latest Red Hat Rawhide RPMs, which you should be able to find by searching RPMFIND (I think the latest package is fam-2.6.4-10). If someone would care to post a more exact link to the actual package, please do. Perhaps I could also keep the Red Hat FAM RPMs on oss.sgi.com. Would anyone like this?
