OS detects drive on bootup and shows it in device manager but I can't access the drive, even with fdisk. The device manager shows the drive as being at /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/disc. The directory /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0 exists but is empty. I boot Debian (without DevFS) on this same machine and it sees the new drive no problem. I can mount it and access it fully. I've tried this on three different Mandrake 9.1 machines with three different hard drives and have gotten the same results in all cases. I've already discussed this on the Mandrake forums and the consenses it that it's a DevFS issue. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way around it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Devin Brown Anthony Macauley Associates dbrown@gx.ca From Andrey.Borzenkov@siemens.com Mon Aug 11 22:34:32 2003 Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list devfs); Mon, 11 Aug 2003 22:34:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: from thoth.sbs.de (thoth.sbs.de [192.35.17.2]) by oss.sgi.com (8.12.9/8.12.9) with SMTP id h7C5YUFl032157 for ; Mon, 11 Aug 2003 22:34:31 -0700 Received: from mail1.siemens.de (mail1.siemens.de [139.23.33.14]) by thoth.sbs.de (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id h7C5YSO27048; Tue, 12 Aug 2003 07:34:28 +0200 (MEST) Received: from MOWD019A.mow.siemens.ru ([163.242.196.119]) by mail1.siemens.de (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id h7C5YRO04472; Tue, 12 Aug 2003 07:34:27 +0200 (MEST) Received: by mowd019a.mow.siemens.ru with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) id ; Tue, 12 Aug 2003 09:41:36 +0400 Received: from mw2b210c (163.242.193.12 [163.242.193.12]) by MOWD019A.mow.siemens.ru with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2653.13) id QXM1D1F1; Tue, 12 Aug 2003 09:41:29 +0400 From: Borzenkov Andrey To: "'Devin Brown'" , devfs@oss.sgi.com Subject: RE: DevFS problem adding a hard drive Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2003 09:34:14 +0400 Message-ID: <6134254DE87BD411908B00A0C99B044F05A0C9B2@mowd019a.mow.siemens.ru> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.4510 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 In-Reply-To: <004901c36029$98c6d900$3cf7a8c0@kkddydjhf> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by oss.sgi.com id h7C5YUFl032157 X-archive-position: 157 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: devfs-bounce@oss.sgi.com Errors-to: devfs-bounce@oss.sgi.com X-original-sender: Andrey.Borzenkov@siemens.com Precedence: bulk X-list: devfs > > Trying to add a second hard drive to a Mandrake 9.1 system running DevFS. > OS detects drive on bootup and shows it in device manager but I can't > access > the drive, even with fdisk.
