Query regarding char device

Hi,
          I am trying to install your Lkcd ver 3.0 in linux ( kernel ver : 2.4.0
, Redhat 6.2 ) . while installing we need to create a raw ( character ) device
and associate it to a swap area.( ie we should be able to run mkswap utility on
it ). Now I don't know how to do that.
It will be very nice if you can provide me some help regarding this.
