| Subject: | 2.3.99-pre8 performance on i386 sucks, too |

The good news is that 2.3.99-pre8 AIM7 performance on i386 SMP is just as awful as mips64 SMP. Maybe even worse. My "modified AIM7" workload that previously on i386 (2.3.99-pre2) would run compute-bound (25% user, 75% system), now on 2.3.99-pre8 runs 95+% idle. And on one i386 run it even fails with a "Cannot allocate memory" error. I think the mips64 CVS tree needs to move forward to 2.4.something ASAP, as soon as someone can confirm that 2.4.something performs better than 2.3.99-pre8. John Hawkes |
