this fixes the crash on halt bug for which you recently filed to bugworks.

The support for powerdown (halt -p) is still not implemented.  For me
the PROM powerdown routine doesn't work and the code from IRIX is somewhat
complex, it involves porting elsc.c and i2c.c from IRIX to Linux.  I was
hacking today but it's not yet complete.
