Yes, the marker is hidden because an overlay plane isn't available. If you look
in libSoXt/src/mixedMode/SoXtColWheel.c++, you'll see that a SoXtGLWidget with
SO_GLX_OVERLAY is requested. The marker is drawn in
_SoXtColorWheel::drawWheelMarker().
