To whom it may concern:
I'm aware it was discussed awhile back, but I've run
into a similar issue using FAM via xinetd under RedHat
7.2. I'm using the FAM RPM associated with your
typical GNOME 1.4 (ximian) installation. I'm trying,
like many, to have FAM running to efsd can connect to
it. But running FAM from the console or xinetd
produces the same error: cannot bind to portmapper.
The specified port in the /etc/xinetd.d/sgi_fam file
is not outlined in /etc/services, but I gather from
the rest of the configuration file that this should
not matter.
What's the solution here? Should I try one of the
Rawhide RPMs? And what specifically is the
'portmapper' that FAM/xinetd refers to? Thanks for
your (collective) help.
