SGI intends that certain codecs be part of dmSDK. Codecs are, however,
an area rife with patent and copyright concerns. We will probably not
be open sourcing the MPEG or DV codecs for this reason.

The null codec is provided as a skeleton dmSDK module into which you
can plug the appropriate calls to your codec. It's hoped that this
module will be useful as an example for those wishing to develop codecs
for dmSDK.

If an outside party produced an open source MPEG dmSDK transcoder
module, we would be very happy, but we probably would not be able to
include it in our open source distribution (although we would be happy
to advertise it on the dmSDK web site). If an outside party produced
an open source Ogg Vorbis dmSDK transcoder module, we would be very
happy and would include it in our distribution. We welcome any such
contribution.
