I have a similar problem, and the workaround is to rebuild the symbolic 
links at the end of the /etc/rc.d/rc.local startup script (my cdrom is a 
scsi burner):

rm -rf /dev/cdrom*
ln -s /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target4/lun0/cd /dev/cdrom
