IDE-SCSI? Won't come up on mine...

I used to use IDE as modules, until there was a problem with initrds,
but even then many times ide-scsi wouldn't load (I had to unload and
reload ide-probe and ide-scsi).

With devfs on, it won't come up, so I can't use my CD Writer as
anything other than a normal CD.

Does anyone have this working or have an idea why it wouldn't?
