Hi, I work a little on the Rock Linux distribution. Rock Linux is a distro
that uses devfs. We have had rather good success with it. However, I am
using 2.2.17 kernel and cannot get mt to work with my tape drives. I get
the following:

filo:/# mt -f /dev/tapes/tape0/mtn retension
mt: /dev/tapes/tape0/mtn: Input/output error

I know that ide tapes are on the list of not tested stuff. Is there
anything I can do to help?

Thanks,

Chris Hamilton

P.S. I have had good results with a DAC960 working on 2.2.17 with
devfs. It just puts itself in /dev/rd with the ramdisks and throughs a
weird pointer warning using fdisk. Otherwise it seems to work well.
