Jeremy Brown here at sgi is working on adding raw device names in devfsd
-- basically, devfsd would create all the raw device names using the
akward mechanism currently available and then users would not have to
worry about this.

I cc'd him on this message because I am not sure the timeline for this,
but I think we want to get it into our 1.4 product which is tentatively
scheduled for August release.
